Introducing the Donghua Mate blog
Release notes, feature write-ups and guides for Donghua Mate will be published on this blog. This first post sums up what the extension does today.
What you'll find here
- Release notes: newly opened translation languages, newly registered shows, important fixes.
- Feature write-ups: how existing features work and why, for example how the glossary stays spoiler-free.
- Guides: detailed notes when installation, activation or the points rules change.
What the extension does today
Donghua Mate is a Chrome extension that translates the subtitles of donghua on YouTube into your language:
- Subtitle translation: works on any video with a Chinese or English subtitle track. Registered shows translate as soon as you open them; on other videos, turn it on once from the player, and that channel translates automatically from then on.
- Consistent names: each registered show has a glossary per language, so the same character or cultivation stage gets the same name in every episode.
- No spoilers: translation and the glossary only use names and facts revealed up to the episode you are watching.
- Character cards and lore: the side panel next to the video holds character cards, and cultivation stages and world terms in the subtitles can be clicked for an explanation — again only up to your progress.
- Progress sync: once signed in, the extension records which episode you reached, and the site marks where you left off.
Still in private test
The extension is in private test and not in the Chrome Web Store yet. Testers receive the package and an invite code, which opens Plus. Translation costs points based on video length; points return on the 1st of each month (UTC).
